South Indian River Fishing Report 2/16

South Indian River Fishing Report 2/16

Inshore

It has continued to be mild weather conditions around the Treasure Coast this past week. Warm days into the 80's and mild winds most days have made for some gorgeous fishing weather. Expect some windy days ahead with the weekly cold front moving through and spring is not far off for us. It has been another fun fishing week on the water.

As usual this time of year, sheepshead have been the best bite on the river. The Swieringa family was out with me and put on a show of catching sheepshead. It was nonstop with Colten even catching them on a bare jig. Keith and Cai were back on a slower morning, but caught jacks, sheepshead and ladyfish. Kevin and Brad were out on another beautiful day and caught trout, sheepshead, drum and jacks. The highlight of the day was when an eight foot bull shark came out of the water about two feet from the boat and took our fish. Got our attention! Three generations of the Faust family were out on a nice morning to fish. The boys, Dane and Preston, out fished everyone that day with a variety of species. Ron, Kyle, Don and Dan had lots of winds to deal with, but caught lots of fish for dinner. Ron got schooled by a big goliath grouper in the inlet that was too big for our equipment. It was an exciting week!

Our trout have been in deeper cuts again this week. DOA shad tails are good lures this time of year. Didn't see any pompano, but they are around. We lost a few nice mackerel at the boat this week on the high end of the tides. Look for redfish to be under docks or mangroves this time of year.

Remember, fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE!

Thanks and Good Fishing!
