Inshore:
Rainy days continued again this week. Good to see the rain, but it is not always the most cooperative weather for fishing. Plan your days carefully and watch those skies around you. It's been hot so far this summer and I expect it will be another hot summer this year. Water temperatures have been in the mid to high seventies as the rains help keep the water cooler.
This week was grandparents day for Eva and myself. Our grandkids, Chloe and Brody, are usually too busy during the school year and this has been our first chance to get them out fishing. It wasn't the best day to fish with rain, thunder and winds all around, but we had a fun day with them and the kids caught a variety of fish! It's always a fun day for me when the grandkids and Eva can join me. They are all anxious to get out again soon! Take your kids fishing! It creates lasting memories for everyone!
Offshore has provided dolphin, cobia, snapper and a host of other fish for anglers when they can get out on the seas. Inshore look for trout on the grass flats with DOA Deadly Combos in three to five feet of water. Top water at first light can find them in very shallow water. Redfish should be hanging around mangroves and docks. The snook bite around the bridges and inlets has been good for anglers using live bait. Snapper have been plentiful around structure with keeper sized fish in the river now. June might be a wet month, but the fishing has been good most days on the Treasure Coast.
Don't forget hydration and sunscreen! Both are very important to your health and can prevent bad things happening!
Remember, as always, fishing is not just another hobby……it's an ADVENTURE!

South Indian River Fishing Report 6/15
Inshore:
Well, we went from drought to deluge! Much needed rains have been arriving daily to fall on the Treasure Coast lately. It put a halt to most of the fishing, but we certainly welcomed the wet weather. The rainy season arrived in full force. The water temps have cooled down into the 70's. Watch the forecasts and plan your fishing adventures accordingly.
We did get out earlier in the week just before the soakings hit the area hard. Don, Sherman and Art were back this month and brought their golfing buddy, Marty, with them. The guys caught some nice trout along with keeper mangrove snapper and other assorted species to make for a fun day. We got off the water before the first rains of the day moved into the area. Now, it has taken three days to try and get the yard mowed before I need to get a hay baler! The trout bite picked up this week on the grass flats. DOA Deadly Combos will work great to locate the trout. We have found some nice snapper hanging around the docks this week. Largest mangrove was 16". Fishing will be good, but watch the weather!
Rainy weather make for a good time to check your equipment. Oiling reels, checking guides and cleaning out those cubby holes that you store lures and assorted other tackle. Don't forget that safety equipment on the boat. Dates of flares are often that forgotten thing that you know will be checked on a safety inspection. Check that first aid kit to make sure everything is stocked and usable in case of emergency.
Remember, as always, fishing is not just another hobby……it's an ADVENTURE!

South Indian River Fishing Report 6/8
Inshore:
Hot weather and afternoon storms will be the norm now that summer has arrived on the Treasure Coast. Just like the past couple of years...it's hot! Winds have been variable with some beautiful Some much needed rain has been hanging around the Treasure Coast this week and it has made it a challenge some days to get out fishing. Overall, the weather has been good and warm for us and we have had lots of success this month. Expect those afternoon showers to continue with a chance at a thunderstorm in the mix. It's the rainy season so plan your trips carefully! Have fun and be safe on the water. Sunscreen and lots of hydration is essential in summer! Have fun this summer!
In the recent Treasure Coast Casters championship tournament, I had Michael Rochedieu on the boat for the tournament. Michael fished hard that morning as did all the kids. It ended up in a very close tournament with mangrove snapper the catch of the day. Michael is the 2017 Treasure Coast Caster of the Year in a close competition with the other Casters. Congratulations Michael! Cousins John and Joyce were down from North Carolina and we got a day to get out fishing. It was a tough day, but they caught fish in spite of conditions. Look for redfish around docks and mangroves. In this heat, they will be hanging under the shadow lines keeping cool. June is a great month to use soft plastic lures, like the DOA shrimp. DOA Lures catch fish! CAL jerk baits and shad tails always work for us around the mangroves and grass flats. You can find action around the jetties and turning basin with jacks and mackerel.
Summer fishing is fantastic on the Treasure Coast. Watch the weather and get out early for some exciting top water action. During the heat of the day, try mangroves, docks and bridges. Deep sand holes and drop offs can hold fish at mid-day. The outgoing tides have worked best for us this month, but as long as the water is moving, you can catch fish. June is always a good month to enjoy the fishing in our area.
Remember, as always, fishing is not just another hobby……it’s an ADVENTURE!

South Indian River Fishing Report 5/31
Inshore:
Things are beginning to calm down as summer arrives on the Treasure Coast. Mornings have been beautiful with winds picking up in the afternoons. Chances of afternoon rains will increase as the temperatures warm up. It's a wonderful time of year to live here! Boats have been heading offshore on these calmer days to catch cobia, dolphin and many other species. Expect lots of boat traffic on these good weather days.
The inshore bite was a little slower last week with the rains cooling down the water lately. We have been catching a good variety of species. Snook, mackerel, jacks, ladyfish and many others have been on the catch list. Andy, Dave and Dan were here last week fishing the area. The guys caught snook, mackerel, bonito, bluefish and jacks on a somewhat slow bite for the day. Keith and Cai were out for a short trip. Cai just missed a good snook that startled her when it blasted her bait. George, Matt, Ward and Bob had a good day with mackerel, jacks, snapper and assorted other species on their adventure. With the full moon over soon, the bite will get back to normal. It was a fun week on the water!
The trout bite should be picking up soon. Look for grassy flats to find the trout. Try the DOA Deadly Combo when searching for trout on the grass flats. At first light try a top water lure as well. Redfish should be hanging around docks and mangroves. Try live bait or a DOA shrimp when fishing for reds. Snook have been around bridges, docks and the jetties. Most anglers have been using pilchards when fishing for snook this time of year. Mackerel, jacks and bonito have been coming into the river with the tides. Small shiny jigs work best for them. Fish your lures fast!
With summer warming up things around the area, it's important to take a few minutes and slather on the sunscreen to keep from getting burned. How you take care of yourself in the sun can affect you later in life! Keep hydrated and enjoy the fishing on the Treasure Coast!
As always, remember, fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE!!

June Fishing Forecast
June Fishing Forecast
Summer has arrived and you can bet on hot afternoons and lots of great fishing action around the Treasure Coast during June. The mornings will be calm and it is certainly to your benefit to get out early to beat the afternoon heat. Being on the water at first light is worth the effort to watch the sun rise. Expect a chance of afternoon thunderstorms each day…we can always use some rain around the area this time of year! Watch the weather each afternoon out there. It’s a fantastic month to fish.
Inshore will provide lots of redfish, snook and trout action on the flats. Get those top water lures cleaned up and plan an early morning to get some of that explosive action in the shallows. Try the DOA Airhead or Bait Buster for great top water action. Switch to DOA shrimp or a CAL jerk bait as the sun warms up to continue your success. Watch for bait schools on the flats and you can be assured there are fish nearby. You can expect the fish to be feeding shallow early and move to the edges of the flats as the sun rises. Look for sand holes on the flats! Fish are traditionally lazy and love to sit in a sand hole and wait for the tide to bring the food for them to ambush.
You should be able to find plenty of redfish around the shallows. The population this year has been outstanding and they have been growing all spring. Redfish schools will be feeding on the flats, so be on the lookout for them. Most will be slot size to just over the slot. I love using a DOA shrimp or CAL paddle tails while fishing for reds. Try along the mangroves as well. Lots of fish will move under the mangroves as the sun heats up for the day. Trout will be on the grassy flats and feeding on the same food out there. Move out to three to five feet of water as the day heats up to continue your action. A Deadly Combo can provide inexperienced anglers with lots of fun learning to fish artificials. Don’t forget to fish the docks around the river. Lots of big fish will be hanging around many of the docks along the Indian River. Live bait, TerrorEyz and DOA shrimp can find some exciting action in June. Harbor Branch, Queens Cove and Bear Point will all be hot spots for action all summer.
Snook will provide plenty of action around the bridges and jetties this month. Snook season closed on May 31 and won’t open again until fall. Night anglers will be heading to the jetties for catch and release snook and maybe some tarpon action. Top water lures, feather jigs, TerrorEyz and Bait Busters can all get you in on some fantastic action. Handle the snook carefully and release them quickly and safely so that they will be there this fall. Jacks will also be hanging around the inlets and give you some rod bending activity.
Make sure you take plenty of water with you. It will be hot out there. Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated and reduce the risk of heat stroke. Slather on lots of sunscreen! Sunburn isn’t a good feeling at the end of the good day of fishing. A little common sense and a few minutes can a big difference. Make that part of preparations for your adventures on the water. It will just make a great day even better!
Remember, as always, fishing is not just another hobby……it’s an ADVENTURE!
