October Fishing Forecast

October Fishing Forecast – Treasure Coast

October marks the transition into the fall weather patterns along the Treasure Coast. You can expect temperatures to begin to cool down somewhat into more comfortable days to enjoy the outdoors. Water temperatures will begin to slowly cool off as well. This year has brought us lots of rain and a quiet hurricane season so far. October provides great weather and hungry fish. It's a fantastic month to be fishing!

The fall mullet run will continue to dominate the area as large schools of finger mullet fill the beaches, inlets and rivers of the area. It has been an active season this year. You can expect lots of big fish to be feeding on them both day and night. Snook fishing will be best during the night hours on the higher ends of the tides. Live finger mullet, croakers and pigfish will be the best live baits to use. DOA Terror Eyz, Bait Busters and feather jigs will be good artificial lures to use for snook. Try around the jetties, turning basin and bridges as well as many of the deeper docks around the river. Lighted docks are especially productive when fishing at night.

Redfish has continued to be a wonderful fishery for us again this year. Each year has seen their population increase and many anglers have enjoyed the experience of fishing a large school of reds this year. October will continue to be a productive month for those who seek redfish on the flats. The new DOA 2 3/4“ shrimp or CAL grub tails are two of the best choices for redfish along with a variety of live and cut baits. The west shoreline south of Fort Pierce is always a good area when looking for redfish.

The trout bite will be good this month. Get out early with a top water lure for some exciting action on the river. Switch to a DOA shrimp or CAL jerk bait later in the mornings. Harbor Branch, Queen's Cove and Middle Cove are all great areas to fish for trout around the Treasure Coast. Look for some sheepshead, black drum and snapper around the bridges, docks and channel edges. The surf will be alive with jacks, snook, bluefish and other predators, which will all be chasing the bait schools along the beach.

Snook season has been in full swing for the past month and anglers are always looking for that slot fish to take home. Beaches, jetties, bridges and mangroves are all popular areas to seek snook. Top water lures, DOA Bait Busters, CAL Airheads and live baits are all great ways to target snook in October. Have fun this month!
It's another great month to fish along the Treasure Coast! Have fun and get out fishing soon!

South Indian River Fishing Report 9/22

Inshore:

We have enjoyed some fantastic weather lately along the Treasure Coast. There are still those afternoon thunderstorms, but the mornings have been picture worthy with the sunrises. Temperatures have begun to mellow out a little as the fall transition continues. The fall mullet run is full blown with bait schools all over the area. It's a great time of year to enjoy the fishing!

This past weekend was Grandpa's day! I had the grandkids, Chloe and Brody, along with dad, Rick, out for a fishing adventure. The kids wanted to catch something for dinner and they succeeded with a nice mess of snapper and a big sheepshead. They caught lots of fish that morning! My wife, Eva, joined me on Tuesday for a little scouting trip for the coming weekend. She landed two nice redfish. One for dinner and one oversize to release. It was another fun week on the water.

The trout bite has been up around Harbor Branch lately. Watch for bait schools being crashed and fish the edges. Live shrimp on popping corks or DOA shrimp have worked best for us. Early mornings, try a top water lure on the grass flats. Our redfish have been on the flats and under the mangroves. Eva caught her first one when we found a school of reds on the flats and the second was hanging under the mangroves. Snook fishing has been best at night around the inlets, bridges and sea walls. Docks have been holding some nice size snapper and sheepshead.

Don't forget sunscreen and drink lots of water. You don't know how important sunscreen is until you get older and it catches up with you!

As always, remember that fishing isn't just another hobby.....it's an ADVENTURE!

South Indian River Fishing Report 9/14

Inshore:

The transition into fall weather patterns continues along the Treasure Coast. Lots of rain around the area with some windy days as well are the norm this time of year. The tropics have been pretty active and brings wet weather to us. Expect more of the same for the rest of the month.

The fall mullet run is going strong with lots of bait along the beaches and flooding into the river. Snook fishing will be very good this month around the inlets, bridges and fishing the bait schools along the beaches. Top water lures are an excellent choice this time of year around the bait. Try a DOA Bait Buster for some artificial action. On the flats, look for trout and snook when fishing the schools as well. Try the new DOA 2 3/4" shrimp on the grass flats for trout and redfish. Bear Point, Round Island and Queen's Cove have been good areas lately for flats action. Snapper fishing has been excellent lately around structure, bridges and docks. In the turning basin, look for jacks, mackerel and some bluefish moving in with the tides. Small shiny lures or jigs work great on these fish.

Fall is always an exciting time to enjoy the fishing along the Treasure Coast. Watch the weather, use plenty of sunscreen and keep hydrated. Have fun the next several months!

South Indian River Fishing Report 9/8

Inshore:

As the weather transitions into fall, look for more rain and wind to make most days challenging to any angler. This past week has brought us lots of rainy days and we managed to get wet on a few of them. Watch the forecast and radar to plan your fishing adventures safely. Temperatures should begin to gradually become milder and more comfortable out there.

The fall mullet run has arrived on the Treasure Coast. The perfect time to use top water lures around the bait schools that are flooding into the rivers. Along the beaches will also be a great place for top water action. Look for the bait where you are fishing. If you don't see any, move to another area. Bait will be the key to success in September. Lots of big fish are feeding around the bait pods this time of year so take advantage and get out fishing this month!

Snapper has continued to be a good bite around the river. Vinny and I tried to dodge rain clouds for a while and found snapper up to 16" in the river before we got rained out for the day. Docks, bridges, channel edges are the best spots for snapper, sheepshead and other structure fish. Snook fishing will be best around the jetties, bridges and sea walls where the bait is hanging around. Try a DOA Bait Buster or Terror Eyz for snook fishing. Look for redfish around docks, grass flats and mangroves. Trout should be in shallow grass flats where you can find bait pods. That is the perfect time to work a top water lure or DOA shrimp. Action this month will be exciting and fast!

The fall mullet run is about to get into full swing along the Treasure Coast. As the schools of finger mullet arrive, so will the predators looking for an easy meal. Top water lures, DOA shrimp and live bait can find some nice fish hanging around the edges of the bait schools. Have fun!

As always, remember that fishing isn't just another hobby.....it's an ADVENTURE!

South Indian River Fishing Report 9/1

Inshore:

Looks like we are surrounded by tropical weather bringing rain and winds to the area. We dodged rain storms this week and even got wet on occasion. The rains and wind will continue for a while as these systems move through the state. Plan your outdoor activities carefully and watch the weather before you venture out. Fishing has been good in spite of what mother nature doles out.

Snook season opened with lots of rain to challenge anglers who wanted to get out the first few days of the season. Bridges and inlets are usually the hot spots for those wanting to catch a keeper snook. Our best bite this week has been snapper. Lots of keeper size fish have moved into the river and you can find them just about everywhere lately. Channel edges, bridges and docks are some of the favorite areas that snapper like to hang out. Most of our nice sized fish have come off the grass flats. Kevin and Bradley were out on a rainy morning and caught lots of snapper up to 14" while we dodges rains clouds. Bradley added a nice 22" trout to top off the morning. Jim, Patrick and Jimmy were out with me on another nice morning and found lots of snapper to start off the day. Patrick added a nice 22" tripletail to the mix and they topped off the day with three snook on the flats.

The fall mullet run is about to get into full swing along the Treasure Coast. As the schools of finger mullet arrive, so will the predators looking for an easy meal. Top water lures, DOA shrimp and live bait can find some nice fish hanging around the edges of the bait schools. Have fun!
